Archive for August, 2011

Hey folks, it’s the end of the week, better known as friday! I was on the road on Wednesday and yesterday I could barely keep my eyes open.

Overall, I had a good trip, topped it off with a visit to the natural history museum on Tuesday.

To make up for lost time I’ll be posting about my trip this weekend.

In other news, the movie  The Help has been doing well in theaters and has a large audience too!

Take a look!

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/help-audience-just-who-exactly-228384

Not a bad thing. So far the film has received good reviews and has been a box office success.

In the article, it’s been compared to the 2009 box office hit  The Blindside which not only had good DVD sales but Sandra Bullock took home an Oscar 4 months later.

I’ll be honest I’ve seen a lot of films, some box office hits others that are more like hidden gems where while they didn’t do well in theaters they turned out to be good films worth renting or owning. Then there’s the ones that were so bad I’d never watch them again or the ones that everyone and their grandma enjoyed but I didn’t.

But being a writer and like anything else, a person has to take the good with the bad.

Hearing about how successful The Help has been, does give me a confidence boost in terms of my writing. The broad audience that has mix of young and old, black and white and other people of different nationalities and genders is still there. But trying to reach that audience is easier said than done.

But I’m sure I’ll get there soon.

One goal I’ve set for myself to finish the first drafts of my pilot episode and movie script and register it with the Writer’s Guild.

I failed to do so last year but this time I’m gonna make sure I get it done.

In the meantime,  I’ll be doing research on different contests and their deadlines and try to participate in… for now 2 out of 3.

 Will post how that goes.

See ya tomorrow!

Metropolitan Monday

Hey folks,

Had a nice monday afternoon… for once.

Anyway this is a sneak preview of a series of posts with themes I’ll be doing in October. The themes consist of the following:

Movie Monday

Writing Wednesday

and… eh, I’m still working on Friday.

Aside from that it wasn’t  a bad monday; had lunch with a family friend, got some writing done… that kind of thing.

Overall, it was a nice day.

Look for another post with details about the rest of my trip.

See ya!

Hey folks, and, it’s Wednesday.

Well, today was pretty decent. Got to catch up on sleep and… well, that’s pretty much it. Did get some writing done.

Anyway the new movie based on the best selling novel The Help opens in theaters today!

I hope to see it. Yes, the blog post title is a reference to the movie.

Found out that the book was turned down 60 times prior to being published!

Will post a link to the article when I find it again. I did skim through part of it and it did give me a confidence boost about getting my own writing out there.

Updates to my website have slowed down this week but I plan to get back on it once I’m feeling better. In the meantime enjoy this clip from The Help

“Put Momma in a chair”

See ya on Friday!

Hey folks, it’s friday…again.

Anyway, with Rio now out on DVD and The Help opening in theaters next Wednesday, I’ll be working on a list of movies to see and rent for the rest of the summer.

As for updates to the site, the About Pen & Paper page has been updated with a history of the site and a brief description of different pages and sections found on the site. An ‘about the blogger’ section will be added this weekend along with updates to my main website. Adding these updates took longer than I thought, mainly because I’ve been sick and tired this week due to the extreme heat.

I’ll be heading back to L.A. in two weeks!

Will post how my trip goes while I’m there along with photos.

Hopefully, by next Monday (or Tuesday) all much needed updates for Pen & Paper and my main website will be finished.

I also have a few things planned for the rest of the year so check back often for more information.

See ya on Monday!
